FOUNDATIONS OF THE LAKOTA FAMILY
WOONSPE, WOSLOLVE, WOOKAHNIGE and WOKSAPE

The Lakota code is that "Behavior between persons should be governed by the principles of Familiarity and Respect. To have Harmony and avoid conflict was directly correlated to Symbols of Family and Kinship. The Family is an everliving, yet changing Reality. As a group of Individuals related through Descent, it was Enduring. The Nation was United through the strong Unity of the Family because of the constant sermons of the Eldersin terms of the Great Words, and because they had their CULTURE, HISTORY, GOVERNMENT and RELIGION.

This website is dedicated to the words and memory of Sydney Keith, a well respected elder and instructor at Oglala Lakota College for 25years.
